Sunderland - their best chance of staying up is getting Sam back but I can't see that. Ellis Short publically nailed his colours to the Moyes mast (ooer missus!) by saying he was his choice for the last 4 manager changes and giving him a hefty FOUR year contract 9 weeks ago. GONE.

I think that there is a race for the title and a relegation battle from the time the refs blow their whistles at the beginning of the season. Furthermore lots of us have views on which teams will be involved in those battles.

I agree there Stomp. Eight games in and I heard one Sky pundit talking about 'the relegation battle'. The top places are referred to already as 'the race for the title'.
It's fucking ridiculous.

Me too chim, but when you think about it, how many of those have we had in the top flight in our lifetimes ? 4, at a push ?
Reckon we can take some comfort that there's some proper shite about. Hopefully, we'll kick on from yesterday. It was truly doing my head in.

I was hoping for a couple of seasons where us supporters could look up rather than down. It's a bit sad that with only eight games played we're already doing the thing that seems to be second nature to a West Ham fan- looking desperately for three shittier teams than us.

Burnley looking good for it right now vs Southampton. Tidy little team but no goal threat and if Defour's out for any length of time that's a massive loss to them. Once they went behind, the self belief just seemed to melt. Lucky they've got a good keeper, but it won't be enough for me.
